If you haven’t noticed them already, next time you go to the mall look around for QR codes. They are everywhere! At the mall by me, as soon as you walk in, there are QR codes on the doors, and QR codes on all those advertisements that you see on the opposite side of the giant mall maps scattered throughout the mall.
Coupons and promotions. These would be best placed at the entrance to the store. Especially if the store is located in a mall, this gives the potential customer motivation to enter the store and look around.
Downloads the retail store’s app. If your store has an app, make sure customers know about it to make their shopping experience easier.
Information on the product/how to make the most use of the product. This gives incentive for the customer to purchase the product. Place these codes near the item in question.
Customer reviews. Place customer review QR codes near the product that is being reviewed.
How to Use Your QR code in the store:
Place the QR code in an area that is easy for the customer to scan. Don’t place the code really high up or close to the ground. Make sure that it is within arm’s length of the customer, and not in a very high traffic area where it might be difficult to scan. Making a QR code is pointless if no one will scan it.
Make sure employees know about the QR codes. The worst thing that could happen in a retail store with QR codes, if for a customer to ask an employee what the codes are and what they are all about, and have the employee say, “I don’t know.” This is the worst response to any question in a customer service setting. Make sure employees have scanned the code themselves if they have a device, if not, teach them about QR code apps and what they do when the code is scanned. This way, customers who have a smart phone, and just don’t know about QR codes are able to learn how to quickly download an app and be able to scan lots of your QR codes in the future.
Make useful QR codes. Don’t just make one that links to your store homepage. The customer is already in the store, so there is no need for them to look at your products online. Incorporate information on the product, or give the customer ideas. For example, if you are selling cooking supplies, make a QR codes with cooking tips and recipes that includes what products you will need that are available in the store. If the store sells clothes, make a QR code with fashion information and show which clothes in store are the most popular this season.
